KEYLABS VERIFIES INTEGRITY AND PEAK PERFORMANCE OF MSNBC.COM
WEBSITE MIGRATION TO NEW .NET PLATFORM
In new testing with RadView Software's WebLOAD
Product KeyLabs ensures MSNBC.COM's ability to support high volume Website
traffic
of up to 100,000 simultaneous visitors using Globix Network and Data Centers
Lindon, UT —- January 26, 2004 - KeyLabs™, the industry's premier
technology assurance solution provider, with software from RadView™Software
Ltd. (Nasdaq: RDVW), a leading provider of solutions for verifying the
performance and integrity of Web applications, today announced the completion
of new Web performance tests for MSNBC.com. These tests verify the new .NET
environment deployed by MSNBC.com is ready to handle the popular Website's
heavy user traffic.
MSNBC.com recently completed a major upgrade from ASP (Active Server Page) to
.NET. Following this upgrade, MSNBC.com wanted to once again ensure that its
Website continues to provide no-fail performance during peak traffic events
such as breaking news from the Mideast or the upcoming national elections in
2004. MSNBC.com selected KeyLabs to test the server cluster that supports the
MSNBC.com main website. The testing was comprehensive, with news producers
publishing and updating articles to allow testers to assess how the servers
were able to sustain the sudden increases in customer visits while the site was
dynamically updated and changed.
"We've looked at the alternatives and found KeyLabs to be a solid partner with
the competencies and the ability to complete this kind of a test with this
level of volume," said John DeVitis, director of technology, MSNBC.com. "It is
critical for us to test our network and application 's ability to withstand
real world loads, where users are employing many different kinds of machines.
And it was critical that we test our ability to handle the maximum level of Web
traffic we might unexpectedly have to sustain. These were the reasons we were
pleased to work with KeyLabs."
In all, KeyLabs used RadView's WebLOAD to complete a total of 300,000 user test
runs in three batches, to simulate a traffic load of 100,000 users each time.
By responding and tweaking the physical network as the testing occurred,
MSNBC.com was able to reach assurance that its hardware and Web application was
fully prepared to handle the maximum load.
"For a an online news organization such as MSNBC.com, whose Web site receives
between four and five million visitors a weekday, the ability to handle sudden
bursts of traffic is an absolute must . KeyLabs has the unique ability to
generate a traffic load with hundreds of thousands of users coming in from
various locations throughout the U.S. and even abroad," said Mike Fahnert,
president and CEO of KeyLabs. "This is an important aspect of our service that
sets us apart from other providers. We are able to successfully assess a site's
ability to withstand the rigors of traffic from throughout the real world."
In an earlier partnership, KeyLabs used RadView's WebLOAD software for Web
performance testing of MSNBC.com's 2002 Winter Olympic Web sites. In that
engagement, KeyLabs ensured the no-fail performance for all three of
MSNBC.com's primary Olympic websites.
"The task of simulating many users in real-world scenarios to test performance
becomes possible when using RadView's WebLOAD," said Ilan Kinreich, CEO of
RadView Software. "WebLOAD allows testers to simulate hundreds of thousands of
users in a real-world environment, mimicking typical users' behaviors. Building
confidence in your site's performance is key to a quality customer experience,
and RadView is proud to be able to continue to contribute to the success of
MSNBC.com."
To successfully complete the recent new round of testing, KeyLabs partnered
with Globix, a provider of managed application, network and data center
services. Over its Tier 1 network, Globix provided KeyLabs with the ability to
drive 1.2 gigabytes of bandwidth, more bandwidth than the large resources
KeyLabs headquarters is typically equipped to provide. Other potential partners
were unable to provide this level of support for a one-time project. Globix,
however, was not only willing to work with KeyLabs, but was instrumental in
helping KeyLabs to complete the test within a phenomenal time.
"There is a great deal of advance effort that goes into the ability to complete
a massive four-to-six hour test," said KeyLabs testing director Suzanne
Wagstaff. "We have worked with a number of data center providers. From our
experience, for Globix to turn around what they were able to accomplish without
any glitches was impressive. They were able to take a stressful test
environment and to absorb a great deal of the pain of the project in a way that
allowed us to run the actual testing seamlessly."
