MICHAELS STORES CUTS REGRESSION
TESTING FROM DAYS TO HOUR
WITH RADVIEW'S WEB-BASED AUTOMATED TESTING TOOLS
Burlington, MA, January 22, 2004 -
RadView Software Ltd. (Nasdaq: RDVW),
a leading provider of solutions for verifying
the performance, scalability and integrity of
business-critical Web applications, today announced
Michaels Stores, Inc., the world's largest retailer
of arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall decor,
and seasonal merchandise for the hobbyist and
do-it-yourself home decorator, has substantially
increased the efficiency of testing its Internet,
extranet, and intranet-based applications by
using RadView's WebLOAD and WebFT automated
testing tools.
"Prior to using RadView tools, we manually
tested our applications. It took three to four
days alone to test our Web-based EDI application,"
said James Wallace, testing supervisor for intranet,
Internet and extranet-based testing at Michaels
Stores, Inc. "Now we can complete a full
regression test using WebLOAD and WebFT in just
two hours. On our consumer website, an application
that allows customers to buy custom-framed artwork
used to take three days to regression test and
now, with WebFT, it takes only two hours."
This savings has allowed Michaels' Internet
Services Group to test more often and earlier
in the development cycle. With RadView's tools,
the team has been able to reproduce errors,
which, in turn, has enabled faster debugging.
In addition, RadView's WebLOAD and WebFT's tight
integration allows for the sharing of test scripts
between applications, which has further increased
the team's efficiency.
The development and test teams work together
on a daily basis to deliver highly efficient,
functional applications for customers, suppliers,
and the stores themselves. "The JavaScript
functionality has improved communication with
our Java-based development team and that has
also added to our increased efficiency,"
added Wallace.
"RadView's tools are designed to work
together and to encourage collaboration between
test engineer and developer," said Ilan
Kinreich, president and CEO of RadView Software.
"With the growing complexity of Java applications,
the JavaScripting capabilities of our tools
ease the testing of these applications while
improving the communication between test engineer
and developer."
The team uses RadView's tools to test the consumer
site (www.Michaels.com) and several other Web-based
applications from direct EDI communication applications
to internal Oracle-based applications to a complex
Web services application. "The bottom line
is that now we test more of each application."
This allows us to catch bugs prior to production
where money is lost if consumers log off the
website without completing a purchase."
Michaels Stores, Inc. is the world's largest
retailer of arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall
decor, and seasonal merchandise for the hobbyist
